My diamond painting journey began in a place I never expected—with a clearance find at TJ Maxx on the day I was released from the hospital. It was February 2025, and I had just undergone a lower-back spinal fusion. On my way home, I stopped at TJ Maxx and came across a diamond painting of the Mona Lisa on clearance. I had never done a diamond painting before, but something about it caught my attention. I decided to buy it and give it a try. I had no idea at the time that this little clearance canvas would change my life.

As I started working on that first painting, I discovered something I desperately needed. Diamond painting gave my mind somewhere to go. I could sit down, focus on placing one tiny drill at a time, and for a while, shut out everything else around me. Living with ADHD, depression, social anxiety, and fibromyalgia has presented me with challenges, and finding something that allows me to quiet my mind and relax has been incredibly meaningful. Diamond painting became more than just a craft. It became a way for me to slow down, concentrate on something positive, and give myself permission to simply enjoy the moment.

I also discovered something else I never expected: a community. I started watching diamond painting videos on YouTube and realized there was this incredible world of people who shared the same passion. I saw unboxings, reviews, completed paintings, works in progress, tips, events, and people simply sharing their love of the craft. I wanted to be part of that community. So, almost a year ago, I decided to break through some of my own barriers and start my YouTube channel, DiamondPaintingDude77.

Starting a channel wasn’t easy. Putting myself out there and connecting with people was a challenge, but diamond painting gave me something I wanted to share. Over the past year I have made so many wonderful friends through this community, and I am incredibly grateful to have each of them in my life. And while I haven’t completed hundreds of paintings, I’ve learned that finishing isn’t the only thing that matters. Over the past year, I’ve completed 9 diamond paintings and currently have 26 works in progress. Each one represents time spent creating, learning, relaxing, and connecting with other people.

My love for diamond painting has also carried beyond my own craft table. I work part-time for a job training center that helps people who face barriers to employment learn skills and find jobs in their communities. Inspired by the diamond painting events I saw happening across social media, I decided to create a diamond painting group of my own. Through the group, participants receive diamond painting kits that have been donated to us. Throughout the month they work on their paintings, then when we meet at the end of the month, everyone gets the opportunity to share their progress and talk about how diamond painting has helped them through whatever struggles they may be facing. Watching people discover that they can create something beautiful, have something to look forward to, and share that accomplishment with others has been incredibly rewarding.

This is what I love most about diamond painting: it doesn’t matter how quickly you work, how much experience you have, or how long it takes you to finish - Everyone can have a place at the table.

My journey eventually led me to FEELOOK Art, where I have had the opportunity to collaborate with the company by doing product reviews, unboxings, and answering questions from my subscribers. One of the things that has stood out to me most about FEELOOK is watching the company grow and evolve over the past year. I’ve seen how willing FEELOOK has been to listen to its customers, accept criticism, consider suggestions, and continue improving. In an industry where it can sometimes feel like customer feedback isn’t heard, I have watched FEELOOK genuinely welcome feedback and treat the people in its community as more than just customers. They have made me feel like family. Being able to collaborate with FEELOOK and be part of that community is something I am genuinely proud of.

When I think back to that day in February 2025, I sometimes find it amazing that a simple clearance Mona Lisa from TJ Maxx could lead me here. I bought that painting because I thought it might be something fun to try. Instead, diamond painting gave me a way to quiet my mind. It gave me creativity, purpose, friendships, a YouTube channel, and a community. It even inspired me to create an opportunity for other people to experience the same sense of accomplishment and connection that I found.

I may only have nine completed paintings sitting on my shelf, with 26 more waiting for their turn, but my diamond painting journey isn’t really measured by how many canvases I’ve finished. It’s measured by the people I’ve met, the friendships I’ve made, the barriers I’ve challenged, the people I’ve been able to help, and all of the moments when I sat down, picked up my diamond painting pen, and simply felt at peace. And to think… It all started with a clearance Mona Lisa. 💙
